FLAM Corée — Français LAngue Maternelle, French as a mother tongue — the association of French-speaking families in Seoul. Workshops, outings and French classes for children aged 0 to 18, supported by the French Embassy.

FLAM stands for Français LAngue Maternelle — French as a mother tongue.
What we do
The heart of the association: every two weeks, children get together around storytelling, theatre, cooking and writing — but also outdoor activities. And we celebrate Christmas, Candlemas and Francophonie Day together.

To go further: an optional members-only programme, every Saturday morning at Lycée Xavier, in small age-based groups, over two sessions per year.

Word from parents
As a French-speaking mum, it goes without saying that my daughter should learn French too — especially since she goes to Korean school. Having grown up in a bilingual family myself, I know how important it is to bring her together with other children in the same situation. FLAM has become a must for us: my daughter learns French not only through a wide variety of activities, but also through the French classes. And it's a great chance to connect with other parents living this cultural mix every day.
We love the FLAM activities because we only have one thing to do: enjoy them. The team takes care of everything and puts on fun activities for the children. The little ones are always thrilled to see their FLAM friends again — and so are the grown-ups! It's a family event, a simple and friendly French-speaking get-together.
For my son, FLAM is a chance to practise his understanding of French while playing and discovering: he meets children growing up in the same context, makes friends and learns French without even realising it. It's also a real boost for his social skills. And it's just as valuable for us parents — we meet parents living the same experience, speak French far from home, make friends and grow our network.
Frequently asked questions
FLAM Corée gives priority to children of French nationality, aged 0 to 18, who are not schooled in the French curriculum. That said, the door is not closed: depending on available spots, we also welcome children schooled in French and French-speaking children of other nationalities.
Not sure your child is eligible? Check in two questions →Membership gives access to the life of the association: the workshops every two weeks, the outings and the celebrations. The Saturday classes are an extra programme, optional and paid, for members only. You can perfectly well be a member without taking the classes.
The association welcomes children from 3 to 18. Before age 3, Baby FLAM — our twin programme — welcomes the little ones with a parent.
Join Baby FLAM →Annual membership is 50,000 KRW for a French child not enrolled in the French school system (80,000 KRW in total for two or more children in this situation), and 100,000 KRW per child if they are not French or are enrolled in a French-language school. It covers the workshops and outings; the classes cost extra.

Yes, gladly! The association runs thanks to volunteer parents, and we are regularly looking for teachers.
